Ava DuVernay Makes A Solid Argument That Every Filmmaker Should Watch Dailies With Their Cast & Crew…
On a recent episode of Team Deakins (https://teamdeakins.libsyn.com/ava-duvernay-writer-director), director Ava DuVernay shared how she hadn’t watch dailies with her cast and crew before, citing that it always seemed too time consuming. Every indie filmmaker can most likely relate. I can. But her upcoming movie, Origin, was shot on 16mm film and dailies were a necessity. Being forced to watch them changed her entire perspective on the concept of watching dailies with the cast and crew to the point where she’ll always do it moving forward. This inspired me to shatter my limiting belief that there’s simply no time and to do the same moving forward. You should too!
