Being a “Not Racist” Is White Exceptionalism – Face Racism Head On By Becoming an Antiracist…
Last week, I was listening to a recent episode from Marie Forleo about what she’s learning and doing about racism (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qTuCCtFU5A). One thing that she learned that also stood out to me is that the opposite of racism is not “not racist”. When you use a term like that it’s white exceptionalism. It absolves you of dealing with the problem mentally. But you cannot absolve yourself. There’s only two choices: racist or antiracist. If you really say you want racism to end then you must be an antiracist. Pure and simple. In this video I offer up my thoughts and details. Also, please check out Ibram X. Kendi’s book How to Be an Antiracist for a much more detailed and better account. Comment down below with any questions or thoughts that you may have. Hit me up on social media @PhilSvitek if it’s easier. I’d love to hear from you.
