Form a Community of Filmmaker Friends to Better Select Which Film Festivals to Apply To…
I’m a big advocate of personalizing any application (college admissions, job search, etc). In my experience this yields better results because it shows to the person reading the application that you’ve done your homework about them and put in effort rather than blindly applying randomly to anywhere. This same notion applies to film festival submissions. And as part of that homework phase, I encourage you to for a film festival friends group so you can get firsthand accounts of festivals they’ve participated in and what they thought to see if it’s a good fit for you. and your project. And if it is, you can write about your friends’ experience in your cover letter. This is what I expand upon. So tune in and afterwards, please share your thoughts down in the comment section or hit me up on social media @PhilSvitek.
