If You’re An Indie Filmmaker, Consider Creating Audio Dramas (At Least for the Short Term Future)…

I am a HUGE fan of audio dramas (my favorite ones include Wolverine, MARVELS, Deadly Manner & Hadron Gospel Hour). And in the current context of the world, I’ve been thinking more and more about them, namely because I think they offer a viable creative outlet to indie filmmakers. Indie filmmaking was always an uphill battle. But with Coronavirus, filmmaking in the foreseeable future will be even harder. So why not as a filmmaker dip your hand in audio dramas? It’s a good way to flex some of the lesser used muscles in your filmmaking toolset because you’re forced to think about audio versus the visual aspect. You have to paint the scene and 3D space of each scene solely through ambiance and SFX. That’s super useful because then once you do make a film it’ll make your scenes be that much more dynamic. Plus it’s a way to build an audience that’s not as time consuming (arguably, although not definitive). Most importantly, it can be done safely. Everyone (cast + crew) can work from the comfort of their homes! That’s a big deal. So why not try it? I’m certainly working towards it.
