Walking Away From Omelas – 1/18/2021: A Phil Svitek Vlog…

I open this vlog by sharing some thoughts about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the state of the world today. Throughout, I mention my friend Eboni K. Williams’ podcast series called Holding Court which you can check out here: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/1119-holding-court-with-eboni-72590940/. After talking about the serious subject of social justice, I transition to talk about my creative journey along with friends’ of mine. In particular, I talk about the launch of @KhalielAbooboo’s Trap Yoga Music channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChE7GqMGaO2XU9OhZTe30cg) and the lessons you can take away from his journey. Then I share my thoughts heading into filming a proof of concept film and compare the experience to Ursula K. Le Guin’s short story called The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas (https://sites.asiasociety.org/asia21summit/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/3.-Le-Guin-Ursula-The-Ones-Who-Walk-Away-From-Omelas.pdf). It’s a comparison that I’m sure artists can relate to once viewed from this perspective. Please feel free to ask questions or offer opinions of your own, whether down in the comment section or by hitting me up on social media @PhilSvitek.
