Throughout human history, the great thinkers and philosophers have always touted the benefits of silence. Yet today I find most of us seek to constantly distract ourself with more and more sounds. Whenever we work, we have TVs blaring. Or we crank up the bass on our already loud music. Why? What makes us so incapable of sitting with our thoughts? I believe in the power of mediation, prayer and journaling but it means nothing if you don’t carry the benefits and ideals of those into other practices of life. Silence is a tool I use to stay focused, grounded and in the moment of my day to day. It has tremendous positive impact on my life and it can have the same for you if you cultivate more quiet moments in your life.
