About Me

Hi 👋 I’m Phil Svitek!

I’m a filmmaker, author, podcaster, xenophile, scholar & 360 Creative Coach…

And I’m dedicated to empowering aspiring artists.

My journey started at 15 with documentary editing, leading to groundbreaking work for the Connecticut Hospice. Emerson College was my next stop, where I edited Intrepid Descent, a skiing documentary. Under the mentorship of Friends‘ executive producer Kevin S. Bright, I honed my craft further. And, during one summer, I produced over 500 episodes of Garden Girl TV, having been hired by my professor, Robert Patton-Spruill.

Post-college, I connected with fellow Emerson alumna Maria Menounos, leading to my role as editor and co-producer for Adventures of Serial Buddies. When Maria and her partner, Keven Undergaro, launched AfterBuzz TV, I stepped in as Chief Operating Officer, spearheading digital production. I oversaw 150+ weekly shows, resulting in a staggering 70,000+ episodes.

Now in my 30s, I’ve expanded my creative horizons, venturing into web series, music videos, films (from shorts to features), books, documentaries, podcasts, and TV pilots. The list of people, brands, and companies that I get to work with boasts prestigious names, including The Grammys, Goop, Maria Shriver, Wheelhouse, Girl Boss, Yoga Girl, Elise Loehnen, Sex with Emily, Jemele Hill, Revolt TV, DJ Richard Vission, Sweet Taboo, and many others.

Stay Updated

Stay connected with through my vlog, where I share updates, insights, and behind-the-scenes glimpses into his creative journey.

I also delve into the value of revisiting past work and the insights gained from a long drive from LA to Seattle. It's okay to cringe at your old creations – it signifies growth as an artist. Embrace the journey, learn from the past, and keep moving forward.

In this episode, I raise a genuine question that's been on my mind and possibly on yours too: Why don't libraries offer more streaming shows to the public, given their role as custodians of knowledge and resources?

Libraries have transformed over time, adapting to digital advancements by providing e-books, audiobooks, and even introducing platforms like Kanopy for streaming movies and TV shows. However, despite these progressive steps, it's intriguing that not all streaming content is readily available through these platforms.

The question arises: Why the limitation? Is it simply a matter of studios being reluctant to share their entire catalog, possibly driven by a motive of profit and subscription-based services? Is it solely greed motivating this practice?

I'm genuinely open to exploring alternative reasons or explanations if they exist. Could there be other factors contributing to this discrepancy? And more importantly, why do we, as consumers and users of these platforms, accept such limitations if it is indeed driven by profit motives?

Join me in this reflection and discussion and let's ponder and share our perspectives on this intriguing topic, examining the dynamics between content access, profit motives, and the public's right to information and entertainment. Your insights and thoughts on this matter are greatly appreciated as we explore this ongoing debate.

Welcome back to another week of my vlog, where I share insights into my creative journey, aiming to inspire and provide actionable takeaways for all of you. This week, I've made significant headway with my upcoming movie's script. From bullet point #27 in the outline to #65, progress is evident, even though each point doesn't hold equal weight. With a total of 117 points, there's still a substantial portion to cover, but the detailed outline is proving invaluable in keeping story details at the forefront of my mind while I continue to churn out more pages.

An intriguing thought that surfaced this week revolves around the possibility of transforming this lengthy script into a limited series. The concept stems from the idea of a 3-hour movie with potential intermissions, but ultimately, considering the trilogy concept, why not divide it into three seasons, each consisting of two episodes? While it's a fun concept to ponder, it's not yet set in stone. The project will undoubtedly take the shape it requires.

While my primary focus remains on the script, I've also been contemplating updating the pitch deck, albeit considering this post-script version. Additionally, I've been collaborating on a filmmaking how-to book with a ghostwriter, while my second novel and a short film project have taken a backseat for the time being.

This week involved an extensive consultation on a documentary, a project where the creative journey has been fulfilling for the artist but requires that final 20% of work left to resonate with audiences. Cutting down the documentary to make it accessible for audiences has been challenging for the artist, a common struggle of letting go of beloved content for the sake of the project's coherence.

I stumbled upon an intriguing TikTok tutorial utilizing AI for video creation (https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8kHhVLa/), prompting contemplation about the balance between AI tools and their potential misuse as shortcuts to success.

Moreover, I discuss the value of transparency in life, mentioning the openness of sharing a therapy session with a friend and the transformative experience it offered, advocating for radical transparency to address societal problems.

Finally, I touch upon the unsettling trend of job expectations pushing employees to clear work ahead of vacations and the habit of elongating shows beyond their prime.

Join me in this diverse discussion encompassing creative endeavors, personal insights, and societal observations. Your thoughts and engagement are always welcomed. Stay inspired and keep creating!

In this vlog, I'm sharing the delicate balancing act of managing my growing workload and pushing my website revamp over the finish line. Work has ramped up, leaving me with limited time for my own projects. Still, I've managed to keep all the balls in the air.

This week marked the fourth week of my website revamp, and although there were no impending consequences if I didn't finish, I was eager to check it off my list. I prioritized work tasks at the beginning of the week and, as they wrapped up towards the end, I dedicated substantial hours to the website project. It took late nights and early mornings, but it's finally done, with a new addition: an "Altruism" page to highlight meaningful causes and charities.

Before this, I had to manually upload episodes each week, but now, it's all streamlined. I'm excited to share it with you all. For a comprehensive look at the web development process, check out my series here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLd-Q6qZNFcQ8zDLRFbI6j-dwljQN0lcgE.

Switching gears, I've made good progress on "The Arbiters" script, thanks to the outline I completed last week. Writing takes time, and it's easy to underestimate how time-consuming it can be. I'm now on bullet point #28 of #117 in the outline, so there's still work ahead.

You can find minor details about "The Arbiters" on my website, and for exclusive behind-the-scenes access, consider joining my Patreon at http://patreon.com/philsvitek, where we also have monthly group coaching sessions.

Regarding my personal reel, I've temporarily paused on editing it to focus on website development and scriptwriting. However, I did share individual testimonials, which have attracted attention and found their way onto my website. It's all about making the most of content in various ways, as Gary Vee often emphasizes.

On a different note, I believe we should prioritize building parks and community spaces rather than more hospitals. I also tested T-Mobile's internet, hoping to save money, but the download speeds weren't up to par. For entertainment, I watched "Super Pumped," a Showtime series on the rise and fall of former Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, now on Netflix. It raises questions about whether the ends justify the means, a topic explored in shows like this and others (e.g., WeWork). We often assume that certain actions modernized the world, but do we truly consider the alternatives?

These are the thoughts and activities that have kept me busy this week. As always, feel free to leave your comments, suggestions for future topics, and don't forget to like and subscribe if you haven't already. Your support means a lot!

Juggling Work and Website Revamp: The Final Push - 10/23/2023: Vlog

In this vlog, I'm sharing the delicate balancing act of managing my growing workload and pushing my website revamp over the finish line. Work has ramped up, leaving me with limited time for my own projects. Still, I've managed to keep all the balls in the air.

This week marked the fourth week of my website revamp, and although there were no impending consequences if I didn't finish, I was eager to check it off my list. I'm thrilled to share some exciting updates. First and foremost, I've just wrapped up the revisions on my forthcoming film, "The Arbiters." After a month of intense work on the script's outline, I now have a detailed 59-page blueprint to guide me through the next stage of scriptwriting.

But there's more! I had the privilege of being a guest on a friend's podcast, where we had a thought-provoking discussion about creativity. You can check out the episode here: https://youtu.be/H9HuR4srxBw?si=i_WETGSja1vmZe8b. It was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on my creative process and share insights with a wider audience.

This experience got me thinking about the importance of creativity, even during challenging times. Whether our art reflects the world's ups and downs, it plays a crucial role in processing our experiences and sharing hope. There's always a lot to explore and express through creativity.

A significant part of my week was dedicated to Goop, which was celebrating its 15th anniversary. I had the honor of asking a question during Gwyneth Paltrow's big AMA episode. Being part of the Goop Podcast team is a privilege, and I'm grateful. I truly enjoy the people I get to work with on the show, which is exactly why I attended Cleo Wade's Remember Love Book Tour in Los Angeles. She’s a co-host on the Goop Podcast and I wasn’t required to go, but I wanted to support. It was a magical night filled with tears and laughter, strengthening the beautiful community Cleo has built.

My website revamp is an ongoing project, focusing on making necessary adjustments to ensure it functions perfectly and looks its best, with high-quality photos and more.

For my Patreon supporters, we had a fantastic coaching session this weekend. If you haven't joined yet, you're welcome to become a Patreon member at http://patreon.com/PhilSvitek for exclusive content and direct interaction with me.

Speaking of coaching, I recently had the opportunity to help someone improve their podcast's audio quality. It was a delicate situation, as the recording team were professionals and my advice was unsolicited. Still, I crafted a helpful and disarming message, and the feedback was positive. Sometimes, a small suggestion can make a big difference if handled right.

I also touched upon The Rock's recent apology for the Maui incident and discussed the importance of amplifying existing organizations rather than starting new ones. The financial impact of being financially strapped was another topic I delved into, emphasizing how every little bit helps, especially for those with less.

I shared a fascinating statistic about indigenous people and their role in protecting biodiversity. Plus, an update on Diamond, my foster dog, and my thoughts on organizing an adoption fair for her. BTW, here’s info on her if you’d like to see her and share: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMZS0hYAb7Y.

Then, I shared my concerns about a dear friend experiencing headaches and explored the connection between mental and physical health. Could therapy hold the key to resolving these issues?

And finally, the idea of intermissions in long movies got me thinking. Imagine having a break to refresh, use the restroom, and grab some snacks during epic films. A win-win, right?

Join me on this diverse and thought-provoking journey, and don't forget to like, subscribe, and share your thoughts in the comments below!

Hello again! We're back with another episode of The Wanger Show! She-Hulk and House of the Dragon just came out. Did we watch either of them? I don't know! I think so? Maybe? We'll see! We also got our first look at the HBO adaptation of The Last of Us! That show looks great and it's based on a game that was pretty widely acclaimed, just like its sequel, which wasn't divisive at all. Not in the slightest. Also Brian's out again, but our buddy Phil is here! We'll probably talk with him about filmmaking, being creative and whatnot, and if he's ever made a Phil-mmaking pun before.
